Summer – the perfect time to make frozen margaritas! Whether at a BBQ, trying to impress your friends with your dazzling cocktail skills or just treating yourself to something tasty and refreshing, this list will give you everything you need to do just that.
Frozen Lime Margarita
Anything citrus will not only tantalise your taste buds, but also quench your thirst, so, a frozen lime margarita is a great way to start.
To make three of these, you will need:
- 120ml silver tequila
- 60ml triple sec
- 75ml lime juice from 4/5 limes
- 120ml simple syrup*
- 340g ice
*Simple syrup is something you will need to make yourself. Simply is heat up the sugar and water (equal quantities of both) until the sugar has fully dissolved. This shouldn’t take too long, so you can be on your way to Margarita Town in no time.
Method:
1. Make sure you start 8 hours or more before you’re going to want to enjoy this delight, then mix together the tequila, triple sec, lime juice and simple syrup.
2. Pour into an airtight container and place in the freezer.
3. Leave there for, at the very least, 8 hours. Note: the concoction will stay liquid for up to one week; so it’s really easy to make it ahead of time.
4. When you’re ready to serve, tip the liquid into a blender and add the ice.
5. Blend as fast as possible and don’t forget to scrape the sides often.
6. Then have your glasses at the ready and serve immediately.
Frozen Blue Moscato Margarita
If the first option didn’t tickle your fancy, you’ll almost certainly want to try this one; not only is it extremely tasty, it’s also a gorgeous blue colour!
To make four of these, you will need:
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp salt
- 4 lime wedges
- 240ml Moscato
- 180ml blue Curaçao
- 120ml tequila
- 60ml triple sec
- 2 tbsp lime juice
- 5kg ice
- Fresh blueberries
Method:
1. Find a small dish and sprinkle the sugar and salt onto it.
2. Run a lime wedge around the rims of your chosen glasses.
3. Rub the limed-rim into the salt and sugar mixture to achieve that classic margarita glass look.
4. Pour the Moscato, Curaçao, tequila, triple sec and lime juice into the blender.
5. Add the ice into this mix and blend. Like the first recipe, remember to scrape the sides down as and when needed.
6. Split the concoction between the 4 glasses and adorn with lime wedges and the blueberries.
Frozen Creamsicle Margarita
Creamy and orangey – what’s not to love? This is bound to be a summer favourite this year.
To make four of these, you will need:
- 240ml tequila
- 400ml concentrated, frozen orange juice
- 120ml triple sec
- 120ml heavy cream
- Lime juice, squeezed from one lime
- 2 tbsp honey
- 4 lime wedges
- 4 orange slices
- 2tbsp granulated sugar
Method:
1. Grab your blender and pop into it the frozen orange juice, triple sec, tequila, lime juice, honey and heavy cream.
2. Blend, blend, blend. As always, scrape the sides when necessary.
3. Run a lime wedge around the rims of the glasses.
4. Place the sugar onto a dish.
5. Dip the rims of the glasses into the sugar and turn to create an even coat.
6. Pour the combined mixture into each glass.
7. Don’t forget to garnish with the orange and lime slices.
Frozen Strawberry Margarita
This is a personal favourite of mine, and uses a classic, favourite summertime fruit! Plus, it’s the easiest one to make!
To make four of these, you will need:
- 450g strawberries (hulled)
- 670g ice cubes
- 60ml simple syrup*
- 120ml tequila
- 90ml freshly squeezed lime juice
- 30ml triple sec
*See the first recipe for how to make this
Method:
1. Pop all the ingredients into a blender.
2. Blend until the mix resembles a purée.
3. Pour equally into 4 glasses.
Frozen Apple Margarita
Although you can make this one on the rocks too, it’s better frozen. Apple is a common favourite flavour among many, and this smooth blend will certainly tickle your taste buds.
To make one of these, you will need:
- 224g ice
- 30ml tequila
- 30ml apple liqueur
- 30ml apple juice (preferably pure apple juice, not from concentrate)
- 15ml sour mix**
- Apple wedge
- Cinnamon sugar (simply mix 1-part cinnamon and 2-parts sugar together in a small dish)
**To make a sour mix, start with a simple syrup base. Then, simmer the syrup on a low heat for about 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and add 240ml of both lemon and lime juice and allow to cool. Once cold, bottle it and store in the fridge.
Method:
1. Before starting, chill your margarita glass in the fridge for around 5 minutes.
2. Once chilled, apply some of the apple liqueur to the rim and then dip the rim into the cinnamon sugar.
3. Add all the other ingredients (leaving out the apple wedge) into a blender.
4. Blend, scraping down the sides if needed, until smooth.
5. Pour into your pre-prepared glass, not forgetting the apple wedge adornment, and enjoy.
Frozen Hawaiian Margarita
Nothing says “summer party” quite like the beaches of Hawaii, and this is exactly what we get the taste of with this frozen medley of tropical fruits.
To make one of these, you will need:
- 224g ice
- 45ml tequila
- 15ml triple sec
- 40g strawberries (fresh or frozen, whatever your heart desires)
- 40g pineapple (preferably fresh here)
- Couple of splashes of sour mix**
- Whole strawberry
- Pineapple chunk
**See the above recipe for how to make a sour mix.
Method:
1. Put all the ingredients (excluding the whole strawberry and pineapple chunk) into a blender.
2. Blend until the mixture is smooth. Scrape down the sides occasionally.
3. Empty the blender into your pre-selected glass.
4. Make sure to garnish with the whole strawberry and pineapple chunk.
Now, for the perfect summer do, you’ve got to taste test all of them, right? Absolutely! Your blender will be doing a lot of work this season; enjoy and bottoms up!
