Everyone loves a good and strong alcohol drink once in a while, but some alcohol products are a little stronger than others. In most cases, your alcohol will contain a total of 4 to 30 percent alcohol by volume or ABV. But some drinks are a little more powerful.
These alcoholic drinks are surely going to be much more intense than what you might find elsewhere. You might be impressed by some of these drinks, but you would also have to be very cautious when it comes to handling them. These drinks are intense enough to where only a small amount of such an alcohol is good enough. In fact, many of these strong alcohol products are rare because of how they are so intense.
Basic Types of Alcohol
Some of the most intense alcohol products that you will find in the world include these options:
- Cocoroco – 96%. Cocoroco is a Bolivian drink that comes from the sugar cane. It is heavily fermented to where it includes an intense alcohol content. The product is often sold as “potable alcohol” in tin cans. Although it could be consumed, it is best used for cooking.
- Poitin – at least 40%. Poitin is an Irish distilled drink that entails a malted barley base for a mash, although cereal grains or potatoes may also be used. A small pot still is typically utilized in the production of poitin, hence the name.
- Arak – 50-60%. Produced mainly in the Middle East, arak has an anise flavor. Mature grapes are grown without irrigation and then harvested and crushed to be fermented with the occasional mixing to let off carbon dioxide. This is distilled twice as the alcohol produced in the first distillation is distilled a second time with aniseed added into the mix.
- Oghi – 50%. Produced in Armenia, oghi featured distilled berries. It has a vodka-like tone, but this is used mainly as a welcoming drink to guests who wish to dine with others in Armenia.
Specific Alcohol Products
Some particular alcohol products are powerful. These include such extreme things as the following:
- Bacardi 151 – 75%. The ABV of Bacardi 151 is nearly twice that of what you’d get out of traditional rum. Bacardi 151 features a stainless steel arrestor and flame trap to ensure that the rum will not leak out. The rum can be utilized in the hurricane, a prominent alcohol cocktail famous in New Orleans.
- River Antoine Royal Grenadian Rum – 90%. Produced in Grenada, River Antoine is made from sugarcane juice and is fermented off of a water wheel. The pot stilling process is used here to slowly distill the rum so it can produce a distinct flavor while retaining more alcohol.
- Pincer Shanghai Strength – 89%. This next choice is made in Scotland as a vodka made with botanicals. Wild elderflower and milk thistle extracts are utilized here to produce a dynamic flavor. These are used as they help with supporting the liver, although that might be canceled out when you consider how strong the vodka is. Pincer insists that people use this vodka as a concentrate more than anything.
- John Crow Batty Rum – 80%. The name of this Jamaican rum comes from how the alcohol in this is stronger than the stomach acids people would get out of the John Crow vulture.
- Clarke’s Court Spicy Rum – 69%. The spices in this Grenadian rum include clove and white pepper. These help to produce a more specific flavor.
- Good ol’ Sailor Vodka – 85%. Organic barley is distilled four times over to produce the striking vodka that is prepared in Sweden. Good ol’ Sailor is famous in Sweden, but it is not well known outside of that part of the world.
- Bruichladdich X4+1 – 92%. This single malt whiskey from Scotland has been distilled four times to create a pure compound. The process adds a more intense flavor that is very appealing, but it can also be tough to consume at times due to how powerful it is.
- Everclear Grain Alcohol – 95%. Prepared by Luxco, Everclear is available in both a 75% and 95% ABV form. The grain alcohol contains no added flavoring. Luxco states that people need to dilute Everclear in a base to enjoy it. Specifically, Everclear can be diluted in water to produce a fine vodka. The neutral flavor makes it a good base for many alcohols provided it is diluted well enough.
- Spirytus Rektyfikowany – 96%. This Polish product is a rectified spirit, which means it is a concentrated form of alcohol that has been purified by several stages of distillation. This is another product that is designed to be distilled as a base for other compounds.
What About Beer?
Beer is known for being a little lighter than many other alcohols, what with beer containing around 4 to 8 percent ABV on average. But there are some beers out there that are very strong to the point where they have not been carbonated:
- Sam Adams Utopias – 29%. Samuel Adams makes this beer in limited quantities every year at hundreds of dollars a serving. Utopias is intense and features slight caramel and vanilla tones.
- BrewDog Tactical Nuclear Penguin – 32%. BrewDog ages this Scottish beer in a whiskey cask for more than a year.
- BrewDog Sink the Bismarck – 41%. This option from BrewDog has a spicy tone to it.
- Brewmeister Snake Venom – 67.5%. This British beer is considered to be the strongest in the world. The nutty flavor of this fortified beer is appealing, but the beer is so intense that only one bottle can be sold to a customer at a time. Also, a bottle costs about $50 on average.
A Quick Warning
All of these strong alcohol products prove that there are plenty of choices for you to enjoy trying out. But remember, you must be extremely cautious when trying out any of these alcohols. You might enjoy the flavors, but the high alcohol content makes it to where you will only need a minimal amount of alcohol if you wish to enjoy it.
